Over the last few months I have been traveling throughout Europe on the hunt for invasive weeds.
With assistance from the Embassies in Holland, Romania and the Czech Republic, we have seen numerous commercial and academic contacts and developed a number of relationships accordingly.
It would appear that the spread of Invasive Species is of as much, if not more, concern to Mainland Europe than here in the UK. It seems not to matter where you go, the same names crop up time and time again.
Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed, Himalayan Balsam, Goldenrod, Ragwort and all manner of Aquatic Invasives.
tcm(r&d) are looking to further these relationships and establish funded projects throughout Europe to look into innovative methodologies of invasive weed control before the problems get out of hand.
Below is a photo of a river in Romania with a heavy infestation of Japanese Knotweed (Reynoutria japonica)

The tcm (r&d) forum is now up and running. We hope it will become an invaluable source information where views and ideas will be shared freely between industry experts, businesses, councils and anyone with an interest in improving the environment.

The new code of practice for the identification, control and eradication of Japanese Knotweed has been released by the Environment Agency. It is the most thorough and complete document to date, providing a comprehensive explaination of the legalities conerning japanese knotweed and all the main methods or treatment.

This website aims to provide information on a range of issues associated with UK invasive weeds. Detailed profiles on the most invasive species in the United Kingdom are listed, including taxonomies, control methods and research materials. Global invasive weeds issues are also discussed and research posted.
The site is also home of the National Invasive Weeds Forum (NIWF), which is an organisation that aims to promote information sharing and discussion on the issues associated with the presence of invasive weeds throughout the United Kingdom. Reports from NIWF meetings and other news items can be found here.
To generate discussion on issues related to invasive weeds, we have included an online forum. The forum is there for anybody; input and involvement from everybody is welcomed.
